How We Test and Compare Products
Our Approach
We don't run a laboratory. We're a small editorial team that researches products thoroughly using publicly available information, manufacturer documentation and hands-on assessment.
For every product comparison we publish, we evaluate the following:
1. Safety and Certifications
We check whether products have:
- EU Cosmetics Regulation safety assessments (CPSR)
- UK and EU notification (SCPN, CPNP)
- GMP manufacturing certification
- Independent lab testing (heavy metals, microbiological, stability)
- FDA registration (where applicable)
Many products at lower price points lack formal safety documentation. We believe this matters, especially for products that interact with your skin.
2. Ingredients and Formulation
We review the full INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) list for any included serums or topical products. We check active ingredient concentrations where available and assess whether the formulation supports the product's claims.
3. Price and Value
We compare prices across the UK market, including multi-buy deals and subscription options. Where relevant, we calculate cost per treatment or cost per use to give a fair like-for-like comparison.
4. Convenience and Usability
We assess how practical the product is for regular home use: how long treatments take, how easy the device is to use and what the maintenance requirements are.
5. Published Research
Where a product category has relevant published research (for example, the effectiveness of microneedling-assisted delivery), we reference it. We do not conduct our own clinical trials.
What We Don't Do
- We don't accept payment for positive reviews
- We don't test products in a lab setting
- We don't claim clinical or medical authority
- We don't review products we haven't thoroughly researched
Corrections
